The Binky Fairy

Have you ever heard of the Binky Fairy? Well, there is one. She likes to collect Binky's (or pacifiers, nuks, nubbies, or whatever your child has coined them) and give them to babies who need them. And so you ask, what does the child get in return? A happy Fairy note and a small gift...in Jelly's case a princess doll.

And the parents get, well, no sleep for the next few nights. But in the end, I know it will be all worth it.

Night #1, Jelly proudly placed each of her Binkys in a bag and then delivered it to the front door. She proudly walked upstairs and got into bed and proceeded to melt down (yelling for daddy). Yes, mommy is now the evil stepmother. (more on this later). After singing some songs and talking to her we were able to leave the room...but not even 15 mins later she began to cry and screaming for me. Yes, this is not only torture for her, but me as well. Again, I calmed her down and said good night. 1 hour after falling asleep, Jelly was up again crying for Binky. I again went in to calm her down. And again every 2 hours throughout the night. Hubby granted me some extra shut eye by day light, and Jelly went downstairs to find the bag that had her Binkys in it, that now had a princess doll and note. She was so excited.

I eventually ventured down to make breakfast and when I did Jelly ran to me showing what the Binky Fairy had left.

As we sat at the table, Jelly said, "Mommy you aren't a Step mommy, you are a mommy."

"Yes, I am a mommy. Who said I was a Step mommy?"

After much thought, "The princess did."

Great, so now I am being compared to Cinderella's Evil Step mom...

Night #2
Didn't know what to expect this night, my mother-in-law was the lucky one to put her down for the evening...Date night! But surprisingly she did awesome! Slept until 7:30am.

Night # 3
Again, didn't know what to expect...but I think we did it! (Whew!) Another full night of sleep! (I am doing the Snoopy dance!)

We certainly got off the hook on this one! I can't imagine it ever being that easy to break a habit like "Binky." She has asked for it, but is doing ok when I remind her that the Binky's are with babies who really need them.

Now, if only I can get her to sleep with one thing...rather than 10!

Whew! Another milestone! It was a nightmare getting the pacifier away from my daughter. Glad your transition seems to be going well!

I can't even begin to tell you how lucky I feel. I think my fret was worse than the actual action!
