What is safe anymore?

So they pinpointed the supplier of the tainted seasoning that was used on Veggie Booty and other snack foods, leaving 60 people, most of them infants and toddlers, with salmonella-poisoning. Which draws the question, what is up with products coming out of China? Many parents I have chatted with and overheard in passing are concerned with products coming from China. It seems almost impossible to ban products coming from China, since they practically manufacture everything...tires, car parts, clothing, toys, stuffed animals, food, seasonings. And for the simple reason...it is cheap. Cheap to buy, cheap to sell.

And can we really just place the blame on China? I just read about garden hoses being tainted with high amounts of lead! At what point do we stand up and say, "Hey, these things are starting to effect my safety and my child's too!" As a parent, I am more than willing to dish out a couple more dollars to get quality.
And that ladies and gentlemen, was my rant of the week!

I started commenting on this one a couple days ago but must not have pressed "submit"!!!! I'd like to say that's a first, but I sort of do that all the time...

So anyway, ick! And veggie booty seasoning comes from China?!?!

Who knew?!!! Personally, I don't care too much for Veggie Booty, but my hubby and daughter like it.

But the question remains, why does the seasoning come from China? Can't we produce seasoning?
