Stop Drop and Roll

This week (Oct. 7th-13th) is Fire Prevention week. Now is the time to check your smoke detectors and go over your home escape plan. I was shocked when I read that only 23% of families have some sort of home escape plan and have actually practiced it. Having a plan can not only prepare your children for an emergency, but it can also help to keep them calm (and less fearful) in the case of an emergency.

Fortunately for us, our day care is going over fire prevention and safety this week. Hubby and I will also be talking to Jelly-bean about our home safety plan. And to top the week off, we are going to a birthday party on Saturday, that will be having a special guest appearance of -- you guessed it -- a fire truck.

If your child doesn't attend day care, no problem, give your local fire company a call, they are usually open to giving tours of the fire house and the trucks. And if that doesn't work into your schedule the National Fire Protection Association has a great website with some really cool and free downloadable activities for you and your children.
