SCHIP

You may have noticed that I am a strong advocate when it comes to children. And you may have heard that the president just vetoed an important bill that would help millions of children receive much needed health care.

Only 1 out of 8 children are minimally covered or receive health coverage at all!

I am urging everyone to send a letter to their congressmen or women to push the bill through, over-riding the President's veto.

Giving health care to everyone not only keeps our community healthy but also gives our children a chance to grow-up and live a normal life.

For more information check out the Mom's Rising blog.

Does your Congressmen agree or disagree with the President? In Central Pennsylvania here are how our local leaders voted for SCHIP and if they plan to vote for or against an over-ride...

Tim Holden, D-Dauphin, Perry and Lancaster Counties voted for the SCHIP bill and will vote to over-ride the veto.

Congressman Todd Platts, R-Cumberland, York and Adams Counties voted yes for the SCHIP bill and will vote to over-ride the veto.

Congressman Joe Pitts, R-Lancaster County voted against the SCHIP bill and plans to vote against the over-ride.

Congressman Bill Shuster, R-Franklin, Cumberland and Perry Counties voted against SCHIP and will vote against the over-ride.

Please encourage your lawmakers to stand-up for the millions of children in America...everyone deserves a chance to grow-up healthy!

All I can say is go for it. Coming from a country that has universal free (or close to it) basic health care I just can't understand a society that won't meet the basic needs of it's own people - especially when those people are the future of that society.

That is exactly how I feel.
