American Made Products

After a few responses, I have compiled a list of American-made Toys. I am still researching some, and hopefully will have them posted soon. They are posted at the bottom of the blog...check back often!

One I want to point out is Step2...They are compiling a list of all their American made products, they will have it available on their website soon. I did find out that the kitchens are made in the US and the pots, pans, utensils, plates and cups are also made in the USA.

Please keep the Made in USA sites coming, and I will continue posting them on my site. ONLY 3 MONTHS UNTIL THE HOLIDAY SEASON!

Scary isn't it? ;)

When you go to Fat Brain Toys make sure to click on the 'Toys Made in the USA' link on the left hand side of the homepage. These are the _only_ toys offered on that site that are made in the USA.

Another site for American made toys is: http://www.usmadetoys.com but make sure you read the 'Product Safety' link and are comfortable with their statement before you buy.

I'm glad my preschool mainly buys wood. But does that make any difference?

Thanks anonymous and Macguyver Mommy for the tips!

Jill - Not necessarily. Wood toys may seem like a safer option, however, thomas wooden trains were recalled a few months ago due to lead paint.

Another thing to keep in mind is even though a toy is made in the US, doesn't make it completely safe. The best you can do is be a smart shopper and be informed.

Reassurance from Holgate Toy (http://www.holgatetoy.com):

Thank you for contacting Holgate. All Holgate toys are non-toxic and safe. Holgate toys meet or exceed the Federal government requirements for toy safety as well as the more stringent voluntary safety standards for toys, ASTM F963, published by the U.S. Department of Commerce. We have used the same local paint supplier for the past 20 years - they are a family owned business that has been in business for over 70 years. Holgate attempts to use as many local suppliers for our parts including wood, paint, toy boxes, pull cord, ... We are all American!
