I recently read an interesting article about names, particularly baby names. Can we as parents be harming our children with the names we pick? I hated my name growing up, I remember asking my parents if I could change it. Usually you'll find Carey spelled, Carrie, Keri or Kerry. I never could get anything personalized because they only offered the other spellings. And of course the fact no one ever spelled it right. Well, I have grown-up (just a little) and have accepted my name for what it is and have moved on.
But, I have to say, it is still in the back of my mind. When we went to name Jelly bean (well, her real name), Hubby insisted on a strong name - I wanted one that was feminine. And we did agree. We kept her name quiet the entire pregnancy, to avoid ridcule or looks, you know that stuff that gets under your skin. We chose a name that isn't really popular but is a classic, strong and feminine name. And still, after her birth - we heard plenty of comments..."Her name is so long, don't you think that will be hard for her to spell?" and "She is going to hate her name later in life."
Will she? Or will she be proud?
I think that your name can tell a lot about you...I think Jelly's name suits her personality perfectly. And plus, it could always be worse.
