Toy solutions

Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past month, you may have heard about the millions of toys recently recalled. Since there is a lot of speculation about toys being made and/or painted overseas, I thought this might be a great time for us bloggers to join together and make a difference.

Approximately 10-20 percent of toys are produced outside of the good ol' USA, which means it will be very difficult to find "American-made toys." So, I propose we start an online list of companies who make and/or sell American-made toys. I mean, Christmas is only 4 months away!

Channel Craft
Uncle Goose
Kazoo & Company

Ok, I started with a few, help me fill in more!

After I get a few more, I will compile the list and add it as a permanent fixture on my blog, so make sure you add the link too!

Awesome!

My research also found that "Step 2" claims this "The vast majority of Step2 products are manufactured in the USA through a process called rotational molding that does not use paint at all. While we do import some accessories and smaller toys from China, none are manufactured at any of the plants involved in the recent recalls. Also, all of our imported products meet ASTM (American Society of Testing & Materials) requirements and guidelines."...hmmm.

There are these building toys similar to Tinkertoys that are made in Denver, CO. Their website is www.zometool.com. I don't have any, but we've seen them, and they look very cool!

And keep 'em coming!

Nicu101 --> Superstructs are no longer made in Colorado...This is the email response I received from them today...."Our products are made in China in a Disney-approved and ISO-9000 certified
manufacturing facility. Our toys contain no paint or magnets and exceed the
stringent toy safety standards in Europe - a standard called EN-71, which is
far more rigorous than the ASTM standards required here in the States. We
have a detailed six-point quality assurance process in production beginning
with the acceptance of the raw materials themselves.

I can provide you with more detail on our processes if required.

Please let me know if I can answer any further questions or concerns you may
have.

These websites, www.madeinusa.com and www.stillmadeinusa.com, offer the best sources to find toys made in the usa. I hope this helps!!
